On my multi-standard set the pecking order of image quality is: -
RGB
S-Video
CVBS
Secam
PAL
NTSC
The Ruskies deliberately used it, especially in East Germany, so that
western broadcasts would be B&W and / or difficult to watch and / or
soundless.
