Have you tried different types of TV? Many CRT television sets,
including my 6 week old Hitachi, but especially those with a well-aged
tube, exhibit severe 'blooming' and image distortion if you try to
display photographic images that have a fairly extreme contrast range,
particularly if the image has large areas which are very dark and very
bright.
