Yes, that's becoming more common. I wired my parents' house with CAT5
years ago when they had some water damage (the intermediate concrete
floor slab needed to be taken out and rebuilt as the water pipes running
under it had become leaky.) I just read a magazine article where a real
estate developer talked about the importance of having all new houses
and flats thoroughly wired with twisted-pair cabling.

There are also DVB-C and DVB-T versions of DM500 and DM7025.
