That's true. Berners-Lee was looking for something better than the
text-based search-engines which existed at that time, and never really got
"alive". With browsers I assume you are referring to the NCSA-browser?
Standardization is what makes the development slow, but at least we are
supposed the read the webcontent the same way on any browser on any
platform (ahum, yeah right :-)) ).
And now we have WWW-3D coming up.....
