Adelphia, now TW, programmed their HDVR remote to suit my installed
equipment when they installed their device a few years back. Later,
when I upgraded my equipment, I called Adelphia for the new remote
codes but they were unable to come up with correct codes. When the
second HDVR was installed, by TW, the installer attempted to program
the remote for my present equipment but was unable to find an entry in
his manual or get valid codes by phone. I've tried several
"universal" remotes as an alternative (learning and/or downloadable),
each several hundred dollars more than I really want to pay for a
remote, and none of them was able to handle all the devices or even
the salient features of one or two of them.
Having four remotes lying about is not much fun and has, on a few
occasions, resulted in my operating the wrong one with unintended
recording results;-( But, it seems to be my lot.
My fifth remote, now-a-days, is a keyboard - as I use the PC as an a/v
source for just about everything that is not on the HDVRs. That's RC
rather than IR, so I can't combine any other device with it.
And, of course, if it's possible for two devices to have the same IR
codes, I've managed to get two of them. When I remotely adjust the
volume on the wired dual surround headphones: the left set also
adjusts the volume on the monitor's built in speakers (breaking mute);
while adjusting the volume on the right set causes the monitor to
switch sources;-(
It all adds to the amusement of home entertainment!!!
