I was referring to the digital resolution of the system, not the
resolution of the display device. DVD resolution is set to 720x480
(NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). All mathematical upscaling, etc, would be
preformed on this data, not on the analog output of the DVD player.
The article you refer to has more to do with how the signal is converted
to analog, and how resolution is measured on the display device.
Neither is relevant in this case as all mathematics are preformed on the
original digital image, and (at least in theory) its a totally digital
system, so no analog conversion.
