hi,

since your subject is choosing a camcorder , ignore the stuff about
film cameras.

All video cameras are effectively the same resoultion, but a more
expensive camera should have a better lens and potentially give a
slightly sharper image.

A digital video will be slightly easier to transfer to a computer for
editing, but a cheaper svhs, hi8 etc will still work. If you are doing
small frame sizes like 320 x 240 for the web a basic svhs camera should
work.

Allow an extra $100 or so for the capture card and software.
