I think you will likely hear from a lot of people who don't want to bother
with it. Some will make personal comments to punctuate their derision.
Remember third grade? Just kill file them and proceed with what you want to
do. Even the Sony engineer to whom I spoke in NJ said that if you want really
good audio, you double record with HDV.
HDV, like all formats, is transitional. I was talking to someone recently who
mentioned that the spec for HDV might be changing. I don't really know how
that might happen, if it might happen or when it might happen. Maybe someone
can offer info on the HDV standards committee and how you might take your
idea to them.
We need standards so the gear will be cross-compatible. If there's room in
there for an added feature set and the manufacturers think they can wring a
few more bucks out of something before they come up with something new, maybe
we'll see it.
The Samson H4 records up to 24/96 for $299. How amazing is that.

Sony's evolution of the Hi-MD recorder, the 200, is also a pretty neat little
