One other desperate ploy to try: most DVD players and similar
instruments have a way to reset the player to default settings. It
might entail unplugging the player from the mains, and pressing and
*holding* a button on the front panel while plugging it into the AC
power again. This can be easier if there is another person nearby to
help you :-)
The exact procedure differs from player to player, so you would have to
look on the company's web site or in the manual for the reset
procedure.
