I thought it could be why it's there, but all of my girlfriends
settings where still in memory eventhough the battery died (radio
stations, language preference, even the last song played).

What ticks me off is the fact that the player _depends_ on that battery
to power on. Losing the settings everytime you change the battery would
be annoying, but I guess many people could still live with that. Not
being able to power on the player seems like a very bad design,
intentional or not...

Just out of curiousity, I opened up my own player (MPIO FL100) and
there's nothing looking like a battery in there.
