You're right, my setup is anything but safe. The smart thing would be
to remove and throw away the defective battery before soldering the
wires to the main battery. Problem is that it's all pretty small in
there and my soldering skills are pretty bad. I'll probably try it over
the weekend. I guess I have a 50/50 chance of fixing or destroying it.

I think my girlfriend is secretly unhappy that I fixed the player.
She'd rather have one of those new iPod Nanos ;)
