Toughspun doesn't create a real softlight. It is merely reducing the light
and softening it a bit. You would need real diffusion to get a decent
softlight (like Rosco/Lee 216).
I recently was on a show where the gaffer made a nice softbox out of
cardbox, with 216 in the front, and a permanent eggcrate made of
gaffertape. Simple and cheap solution, but it worked quite well.
