It seems that Illustrated Limited (makers of dbPowerAmp) is paying licensing fees to
Thomson (the owners of Fraunhofer), who may consider that Lame uses some of its mp3
patents and that Illustrated Limited is a commercial enterprise. From what I understand,
Thomson doesn't charge fees for non-commercial applications, which may be the case of
CDex, RazorLame, EAC, etc. Lame itself doesn't require a license fee for its use. The
dbPowerAmp people may have started charging for something else, which changed their status
as far as Thomson was concerned.
