Yep. Sorta. You download MP3s to your computer then transfer (if
desired) to an external player. Check out Grabit for downloading MP3s
from binary newsgroups.

Alternatively, you can buy them from various online vendors or make
your own from your music CDs.

MP3s are music files that are played either with software on a
computer or external hardware such as "Ipods".

MP3s are sort of a shorthand version of what is on a commercial music
CD. When the latter is transfered to a computer, the resultant file
is a "wave". Wave files are very large so MP3s were invented to
compress them to a smaller size; the amount of compression can vary
but it is always at the expense of sound quality. Not to worry,
unless the MP3 has been *really* compressed you are unlikely to ever
notice the loss. When MP3s are "played", a decoder built into your
software or hardware player decodes the MP3 to a wave and you then
hear the wave.
