I use a combination of programs. First everything needs to be properly
tagged. For this I use www.musicbrainz.com and Mp3Tag
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ Keep in mind that MusicBrainz erases the genre
tags when deciding which program to use. If I'm feeling lazy and have a big
batch of files to tag I sometimes process them through MusicBrainz and then
use MP3Tag for genre tagging as well as some fine tuning and tagging files
MusicBrainz couldn't identify. With a large collection you'll find it
helpful to use a consistant system. For example, the way I tag most bands
lose 'The' from their name, with the exception of "The Band". One of the new
features of Media Monkey it that the artist view ignores the leading 'the',
which is helpful.

Media Monkey is a great program for organizing MP3s because it doesn't
have to move them around and makes it easy to navigate your files. It also
has a function for finding duplicates. In my system the file name is just
'artist - song title'. I've found that this makes it easier to find
duplicates. In Media Monkey it's easy to see which file names are real
duplicates and which ones refer to songs on different albums. I sort through
the duplicates by both album name and artist view because I can find albums
that are tagged slightly differently that way.

NoClone is another useful program for finding duplcates.
