Nearly all applications want to install in Program Files. Your default
registry settings dictate that. You can change that if you want, telling
applications to install elsewhere. It's unfortunate that some apps don't
give you an explicit choice for the install directory. But for most people,
that's not a problem.
Copying from the iPod to the PC would be useful in case of PC data loss. But
I'd still rather use my own PC backups for this function. I don't have faith
in an iPod (or other portable device) to serve as my backup system.
It is lame, though, that iTunes deletes stuff. I've never had that happen.
Does anyone have specific information detailing the circumstances under
which this hapens?
