OK I did not know that, well if all else fails you can use DivX (4?),
as most new DVD players can play it too, so people can burn it to disk.
Yes you may need to install a driver perhaps if you use Mac or MS software.
But that format has become very common, has good quality too.
Same compression factor.
Is there a universal format? I dunno, never will be I think.
The scene changes completely every 4 years now.
I would stay clear of things like 'flash' or whatever that usually present
a user with a 'download latest version' button, then you do that and things
crash.
