A lot of folks look to grab a new item, passing by any that appear
to have been "examined" too much for their taste.

When I buy magazines or books, I always try to grab stock that
appears to have never been "browsed". I rarely "browse" as well,
merely looking at tables of contents, etc.

Considering how cheap electronic devices are, as well as other forms
of media storage, I consider books to be hugely overpriced.

Depends on the item. Many things can only be touched once, and
others are degraded severely if they ever are, while still others get
shifted in classification and lose value if touched.

Touched is used in many cases.

I consider the untouched optical surfaces on my DVD collection to be
what classifies them as "mint", and feel they should hold higher value
than the crap surfaced items one sees coming from the rental channel,
and the "used DVD shops", so to me touched is used there to a degree
as well. Many people are too careless with their discs. Leaving
discs lying around on surfaces is more than a little lame.

There are two places for an optical disc. In the tray of a reader
device (player), and in the case it was sold in.

In the case of previously rented discs... yes, they are used, and
should only be able to be sold as such, legally speaking.
