I toured with a big (unnamed) female pop singer in the 90's. Her entire
act was track, however, it would be pulled in and out of the performance
at certain specific times, such as when she was physically exerting
herself running up and down stairs, and during some vigorous dance
sequences. And sometimes, singers just "lose their voice" on a particular
night.

There was a system of visual cues worked out in advance, so that with a
gesture, the track could be brought in if she felt she needed it.

It was very well executed - we rehearsed it for several weeks. Half the
time, I couldn't tell if it was "live or Memorex," and I was there seeing
it dozens of times.
