Actually, that was pretty well all the time.
I enjoyed seeing him live. I was intrigued by some of the
re-inventions. I enjoyed his singing the last time I saw him live in
1972, but not this time. There really is no excuse for it anymore. Too
bad.
Saw Nellie McKay in Toronto at a very small club a couple of years ago.
She was fantastic. I was five feet from her piano. I met her after
the show and chatted with her. Dollar for dollar, far, far more
entertainment value than the Dylan concert. (Dylan was $75; McKay was
$10 cover charge.)
I had the thought: this must be a little like what it was like to see
Dylan when he first started out. She was funny and witty and brilliant
and in total command of the room. Dylan became even better than that.
It remains to be seen what Nellie McKay will become (Columbia dropper
her contract).
