I would like performers to continue to be embarrassed when people
discover they were cheating or misleading their audiences. Keeping this
issue in the air is a small step in that direction.
Unless advertised clearly, audiences have a right to expect that a
performer that holds a microphone in front of her lips-- usually with
melodramatic pained expressions to indicate how much they are "feeling"
the meaning of the song-- are actually singing.
If they really believe cheating makes the performance better, they
should brag about it.
