On a PC, I tried exporting the library from itunes in order to maintain
an external database of the contents. The only way to get anything
other than an .xml file seems to be with "export song list", which
despite its name seems to export the whole library to a file called
Library.txt. But it is a most curious .txt file. Between each pair of
characters there is an ascii nul character. You can get rid of these
with the linux "tr" utility, to leave a simple tab-separated text file.
But what is going on? Why those ascii nul's? Some strange Apple practice?
