I want to grab myself the "limied edition" Star Wars before the end of the
year.

I Googled this group, so I know already that the original versions on the 2nd
disk are non-anamorphic and that there may be a better version out next year,
but I just want to watch the movies and (for the first time for me) sit back &
compare the original versions with the "original vision" versions. I haven't
bought Star Wars before, so don't feel like I'm whoring to George Lucas too
much in buying these, and it's kinda a treat I've been promising myself for a
while.

Now, I haven't done much DVD shopping in a while, but it used to be that there
were significant differences between US & UK releases. Not in this case - from
looking at dvdcompare.net it seems there's no difference in the extras or
transfers between the regions, so my only question is whether there's any
difference in image quality between NTSC and PAL?

In another thread the aptirrelevance.com site [2] was mentioned, which shows
comparisons between different Star Wars releases - to me the NTSC screenshots
of the "GOUT" versions look slghtly crisper and sharper. Is this the general
consensus of opinion, or am I just imagining it?

The aspect ratio seems slightly different between the GOUT NTSC & GOUT PAL
screenshots - presumably this is caused by scanline differences between the
formats & isn't visible when viewing.

Thanks in advance for any comments,

Stroller.

PS: I also watched The Island recently and enjoyed it very much, so I'd be
interested to hear any other sci-fi reccomendations that I might have missed
out on the last couple of years.
