correct- and after looking at the recording options menus, a clearer
picture is starting to appear

there are (6) choices for recording speed and length of time capacity
of DVD disk

they are 1 hour-2 hour- 3 hour- 4 hour- 5 hour

I believe this would coincide with 448 kbps- 383 kbps- 320 kbps- 256
kbps- 192 kbps- 128 kbps

admittedly I'm guessing here- but they have to adjust bit rate to
change the size of the recorded material to fit more on the DVD blank
disk- somehow

I need to contact an RCA tech rep and find out more- or actually test
the recordings with one of these programs that tell the bit rate, etc.
