there is a difference, because I can record much more music on a DVD if
I reduce the resolution settings on the record specs menu- i.e. if I
extend the quality setting from "best" to "normal", I can fit more
music on the disk.

I'm not recording video- only audio in this respect, using the DVD+R
disks for audio purposes only
