this may be somewhat unrelated since i have a liton dvd recorrder on my
computer
and you are talking about a liteon recorder for your tv ...

however ...

my liteon was also 8x and if i put in a 16x it would only record at 2x (if
it reconized
the disc in the first place) but when i updated the drive with a firmware
update it will
now reconize the discs if it is 16x and it will now also record up to 8x
instead of the
2x it did before.

so with sending a cd to update your firmware to have it accept more disc
should be
a good thing and maybe you will be able to record at 8x on the disc as well.
