Since MP3s are a lossy compressed format, I would not even consider
them as something that has supplanted a true, full bandwidth,
uncompressed recording medium. Well, they obviously aren't.
YOU may not hear the difference, but some of us certainly do.
Granted, they are in full use.
You won't catch me buying any mp3s, however.

ALL of these are derived from CDs or from vinyl.
Were it not for a true source, there would be no mp3s of older
material. Newer material can and is recorded directly to the format
by *some* studios, but again... it is a lossy realm... noticeably so.
You would not have an "entire collection" of mp3s, were it not for the
CDs you sourced (RIPPED) them from.
