How can I capture video from my camcorder (sony TRV900) so that individual
clips created by stop/start would space themselves out according to
real-time?

In order words, if I record for 1 minute, stop for 2 minutes, then record
another minute, I want the captured video to be two 1-minute clips with a
2-minute gap in-between.

I'm using premier pro 1.5.

This would help me synchronize the video with a separately recorded audio
track.
