Do you mean the exact same discs, or the exact same *type* of disc?
IIRC, some DVD players expect that MP3s are recorded with a certain
bit rate. Could that be your problem?

FWIW, some players ship without VCD capability but this feature can be
enabled using undocumented codes. Is it possible that MP3s have been
inadvertently disabled ???
