Well, all NLE's can do 3-point editing, that is, if they know any three
of the pair of ins and outs they can do the timecode math and derive
the necessary duration of those blank segments you want to insert. So
mark in, mark out, set in, bam, you get your duration. I'm afraid I
don't have a fully automated way to do that for you, you'd have to key
it in for each intercut segment, or using an insert>snap technique,
just drag the clips apart by mouse until the numbers match and the
out-of-synch warning stops flashing red. If you're talking a large
number of clips, that would be a drag, I agree.
Can I ask, why is it you're after creating a timeline like this in the
first place? Seems odd without knowing the whole story of what you're
trying to eventually accomplish. I'm going to guess your camermen shot
something multicam but didn't roll continuously, so this technique you
seek is to re-establish coherent timeliens you can then cut between?
Just a guess.
