Per WebMaster Mike:

I use something from ImTOO to convert MP3, WMV, and WMA files.
They also have something that does DVDs, but it's thirty bucks too.
When I bought the ImTOO product, there was also a little nasty in the ordering
screen. No confirmation before it pulled the trigger and a hidden pre-checked
checkbox somewhere that said something like "Why *yes*, I'd just *love* to bend
over and have you nail me for $10 or $20 extra for some BS backup service."
I've got QuickTime Pro. If I could figure out how to rip a DVD with it, I'd
give it a try and let you know.
One thing about QT though: in spite of the fact that I gave them thirty bucks
for it, the main menu still is dominated by really-annoying (to me, at least)
flashing advertisements.
