My iPod does! It depends which heading you set in iTunes. Song, artist,
album, date even!
I've just re- tested that and set it by date - it works.
You haven't got "shuffel play" selected have you?

True you can't play by file name (Why would anyone want to?) but you can
alphabeticaly play by song, artist or album. (providing your id tags are
correct)
