I'm not enough of a gamer to pay current prices for a console , but the use  
of it as a video source might tip me over the edge.

Yep. 
I've seen hi-def demos and while they are now looking good and better than  
DVD it isn't a vast leap as it was coming from VHS.

I tend to have a set price in mind at which I'll buy. 
I got a DVD player for 250 ish but would be happy to hold off on hi-def  
until they are lower than that. 
 
The format choice is of some concern but by the time I plan on buying I'm  
sure dual format will be common or a winner will have emerged
