I'm having difficulties setting up this machine. It comes with a built-in Freeview decoder,
which scans and completes easily, showing all
 possible stations.
The tv I am connected to also has a Freeview
decoder, which I did not connect to the aerial,
and so does not have any channels, but seems
happy enough.(I have to switch this channel on
manually from the remote to access it, so I hope
it is not giving the problem)

I have a cable decoder (Samsung 2100c) which
I plugged to the recorder as directed, using the
 scart connections.
There is also a special lead (G-Link)which goes to an IR
detector/emitter, which I have to stick to the top
of the cable decoder for communications with the
 recorder.
This system is called Guide Plus, and seems to be
 European specific.

Although I can switch the selected input to the one
from cable, and use cable without fuss, and manually
record this ok, I cannot get the Guide Plus to show
my cable channels which it is there for, allowing
 easy programming.

I have already tried waiting overnight for the tv listings
 and data, but nothing happened.
I have seen this morning a message on the recorder that
it was receiving data and then "upgrade".

I am currently set up for analog ITV for my Host channel.
Is it better to try for another channel - say Sky Sports News,
which I hear also transmits data? If so, then I could set it up
to my digital Freeview output, which may bypass something
 funny in my Sony tv.

This trouble may be specific to UK users, and to Pioneer
users with a cable box, or possible with a satellite box.

The people who wrote the manual could never have tested it
 on the public before publishing.

The directions for the simplest actions are split up in sections
and spread all over it, making learning difficult.

For those who have the machine I have my cable box on L1
, which the "Basic setup" for Guide Plus seems happiest.
I answer all the questions (You have to answer PACE for
Samsung) and then it sends different codes which do nothing.
In the small window on the left, I have cable transmission as
 normal, and titled "AV2/L1"

If I go to the edit dialog and chose a channel and edit the
source to the 1st external source, it steadfastly switches to
L2 which gives a blank screen. I cant find a way to make
my external decoder show up an L2 or switch the recorder
 to look at L1.

I guess you can see I'm confused.
