'Far as I can see right now the LCD and Plasma TV's are redolent of the
'Emperor's new cloths' and no where near as a good quality HD CRT.

Sony's new range of HD LCD production monitors with a 1 millisecond
refresh rate are OK, but they cost as much as an HD 16x9 Grade ll CRT.
Problem with domestic standard LCD and Plasmas, especially at HD
resolutions, is the fuzzy degradation with movement and inconsistent
quality handling of different signals, not sure exactly what goes on
with transmission issues, possible an interlaced/progressive thing, but
digital reception here in the UK is pretty damned good and really shows
up the weaknesses of LCD's. My Sony 16x9 SD tube TV at home has pictures
significantly better than the new Phillips HD LCD we just installed in
the other room. I'll wait until they are available at reasonable cost
with refresh rates below 2 milliseconds, the current bunch with refresh
rates at between 10 and 20 are a joke.

As for plasma, they're for front lit displays in Malls and such like,
good for very large screens and wide angles. As a domestic TV they are
silly, have fuzzy pictures, are too expensive and far too fragile. Seems
they trade on hype and the fact they are slim.
