 I own a RDR-HX925/SR and saw the same (excepted that the fan is basically
 alway on). According the FAQs published by Sony, this is normal. The FAQs
 give two sources: VPS (timer with VPS, the unit scans the channels waiting
 for the expected VPS to appear) and Guide+ (the unit checks the Guide+
 channel waiting for data).
