So you can't just re-capture the video from the original tapes?

This is why I save the original tapes and use batch-capture.
So that if a drive crashes, it is just an annoyance to re-load
the video. It is simple/easy enough to keep the production
meta-data (the batch capture files, the project file, etc.)
copied on another drive somewhere because they are small.
