I dunno about "guaranteed". But as long as the player can handle the
bitrate(s) (including VBR) involved, it's pretty certain. MP3 is an
open standard. Nevertheless, though, it certainly is conceivable that
certain files wouldn't work with certain standalone (DVD players or
MP3 portables) equipment.
