I am considering jumping from tape-based DV cameras to a hard-drive based
camera. Two things are holding me up:

- the quality - will it be as good as DV?
- the file format - will it be compatable with most current editing software
without conversion (and loss of quality) of some sort?

And yet another question about the way these things work - when I shoot,
say, 3 shots with the camera at a given session, are those 3 shots saved as
3 distinct files, to be copied from the camera HD to my PC? Or is there
another strategy? There being no tape, I assume it is not possible to "back
up and record over" exisiting footage without some extra steps??

I would love to hear of your experiences with these things as it relates to
the questions above. Thanks much,
Steve
