It has to be a really big strong magnet then, because one which will fit in
the case, won't really convincingly erase the tape.
At a small local tv-station where I used to work before, we bought a bunch
of second-hand U-Matic tapes (used once). If you FF'd them, you could see
the contents, while on normal speed it looked like noise.
