I wouldn't recommend my Philips 5960 over my regular Sony DVD player
for anyone, UNLESS they want to play DivX and Xvid AVI files!
My Sony is easier to use, it can remember where you were in a DVD even
after you power it off or even eject, it has niceties like the "Jump
back 10 seconds" button, etc.
However, if you want to play DivX and Xvid AVI files, you're sure not
going to do that on my Sony!
So, going back to the original request -- "with HDMI... plays DivX...
is not too expensive" -- then I'd give a third vote for the Philips
5960 for all the reasons listed above.
I think I got mine at Circuit City for $70 plus tax.
One note: I think it also has something called DivX Ultra, which I
think means that it can play DivX movies that are encoded with
surround sound. But I wouldn't know for sure, as I don't think I've
ever bumped into a DivX Ultra AVI file with surround sound.
