1) Is it OK (i.e. Will it decrease the lifespan) to leave the player on all
the time, so I can use it as a switcher?

2) Is there a way to edit the sources, so that if I don't have anything
hooked up to that set of inputs, it will bypass that input when I press
"source"?

3) Is there a way to edit the name that appears on the screen to reflect
what is associated with that source?
