.... because the PS2 launched only in Japan first, whereas the PS3
launched in Japan and North America. Duh.

.... in Japan. No PS3 game has cracked the North American top 10 yet. And
VF5 will vanish from the Japan charts in two weeks. Nintendo owns Japan.

.... in the UK, where the PS3 is launching six months late. The upside to
that is they actually have lots of stockpiled product on hand (maybe
because demand is so tepid in North America and Japan) and can actually
meet the pre-order demand, a rarity for a new console launch.
