You can't seriously believe that the PS3's higher amount of sales
during launch means that the PS3 is starting off more successfully.
The only reason why the PS2 didn't sell as much as the PS3 during
launch was because of production reasons. It was impossible to just
walk into a store and buy a PS2 until several million PS2s were sold.
The PS3 hadn't even sold 2 millions, and already it's readily
available and the ebay market for it was dead even before 2007.

Anyways, the PS2's success has as much to do with the PS3 as the
Gameboys' successes have to do with the Gamecube, which is little to
nothing. Sony bragging about the PS2 sales is the equivalent of MS
bragging about Windows sales.
