Indeed, it is a scam site, head on over to http://mp3read.com and read
about the scam sites that are out there. A recommendation we make is
to check out a site via wikipedia before visiting it, it helps weed
out the bad ones. We've listed a number of scam site, a number of ways
to tell a scam site, and also list some of the good really free
software out there.
Oh, and uninstall everything you installed with that software and run
Adaware spy cleaner (it's free from
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
There is no reason to pay for spyware cleaning programs.)
We run through a little bit on our site also what's actually legal and
what isn't in the downloading world, and list a number of sites you
can legally download music (http://music.download.com is a very
reputable one), but you really have to be careful about the scams.
Good luck.
