On my printer I don't print white as there is not an ink for it.

Surely the white is the natural colour of the paper so if it is changing
colour it must be the paper that is changing colour. I suspect there is a
certain amount of optical illusion as to the amount of colour change
dependant on the colour of the background that the white text is printed on
, this may explain why photos appear not to be affected in the same way.
