A friend's 5005 DVD recorder stoped working with his X-Men 3 DVD still
inside.

No matter what he did, the only sign of life was the words HELLO on
the LED display.

In a last ditch attemp, I had to disassemble the unit (and the DVD
drive) to get the disk out.

But, after reassembling it, the 5005 still just keeps "saying" HELLO.
And no other control will work.

I have read about this problem elseware, however, a reason/repair is
never mentioned.

So, what has caused the 5005 to be so friendly?

Bad drive, bad electronics, bad owner????

Any thoughts?
