I'm thinking about purchasing a DVD recorder to replace my current player.
My current player is a Norcent DP-501M which can upconvert DVDs to 1080i and
can play back divx files. I'm thinking about an RCA DRC8060N (or an LG
LRA-516) which also can upconvert and play divx files as well as record
DVDs.
I don't want to loose any features my current player has. My current model
has progressive scan, and I'm fairly sure 3-2 pulldown. The RCA also has
progressive scan playback, however none of the product descriptions mention
3-2 pulldown. Is 3-2 pulldown part of progressive scan? What I mean is,
will the player have this feature whether it's explicitly mentioned or not,
just by virtue of being a progressive scan player?
The product description says it can record progressive scan DVDs. Does that
mean it can record widescreen TV programs in anamorphic format?
With my current setup, I can output a widescreen High def program to my VCR
which will record it and play back on a standard TV with black bars on the
top and bottom. I know I can't record in true high def, but what I'd like
to be able to do is record a high def program in anamorphic format so that
when I play it back on my widescreen TV, it fills the screen and when I play
it back on a standard TV, it has the black bars on the top and bottom
preserving the aspect ratio. Can DVD recorders do this?
If I record a non high def widescreen program (something that would be
windowboxed on my HDTV) can this be played back on my HDTV so that it then
fills the entire widescreen TV?
Thanks in advance
