After decades of waiting, fans of Douglas Fairbanks Sr. finally have a
full-length documentary film about his extraordinary life and work.
Delta Entertainment has released the first in their new DVD series,
"Douglas Fairbanks - The Great Swashbuckler".
The first edition contains a double feature of two Fairbanks favorites:
The Three Musketeers (1921) and The Iron Mask (1929). Also included on
this
two-sided disc is the long-awaited full length new documentary film,
"Intimate Biography Series: Douglas Fairbanks".
Description: The Great Swashbuckler - A Documentary (90 min.)
Douglas Fairbanks, the screen's great swashbuckler, charmed millions
with his energetic athleticism, his boyishly handsome good looks, and
his sparkling charisma. Whether it was fighting off tyrannical
land-owners in The Mark Of Zorro, slashing the kings guards in The
Three Musketeers, sliding down the sails in The Black Pirate, springing
in leaps and bounds in Robin Hood, or riding a winged horse across the
night sky in The Thief Of Bagdad, Douglas Fairbanks was in his element
as an action hero of grandiose costume dramas. But behind all of
achievements on the screen, there was another side to Douglas Fairbanks
and this unique documentary will reveal some of the man behind the
mask.
The documentary film includes interviews with Annette Lloyd and Sparrow
Morgan, coordinators of the annual Fairbanks Memorial at Hollywood
Forever, as well as Douglas Fairbanks Museum Curator and Fairbanks
Biographer Keri Leigh, and also features many rare original
photographs, posters, news clippings, and memorabilia from the museum's
extensive collections.
Bonuses include a full Fairbanks filmography, additional sources of
research material, and the complete short film of the 1918 WWI Liberty
Loan Drive with Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin and Marie
Dressler in Washington, raising money for the war effort.
This new DVD-only release (not available on VHS format) contains more
than 5 hours of movies and extras, all for less than $10 - a price that
fits any budget.
"Douglas Fairbanks - The Great Swashbuckler" is available through web
merchants such as Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster, or from a
retail store near you. This title can also be rented through
Netflix.com.
