I just bought a Philips SPD3100L which supports up to 5x DVD-RAM.
There is no firmware from Philips other than what comes on the drive.
I have the latest Nero 6.x version and INCD 4.3.23.2.

When I try to drag and drop files onto the DVD-RAM, it says it is
write protected. INCD properties say it is not. If I use Windows to
format the disc as FAT32 it says it is write protected. If I try to
use NERO32 to format it it gives an error and says the disk may be
bad. I have 3 new disks, I don't think that is it. INCD error logs
state;

bably not running.

I can't upgrade firmware since there is no upgrade. Should I just
assume my Philips DVD-RAM drive can't use Maxell DVD-RAM 4.7GB disks?

If I eject the DVD-RAM and then put it back in, the system BSOD's on
UDF file system driver. The disk is pre-formated as iviudfs.
